One of the reasons why golf is such a popular sport has to do with the numerous challenges that it usually presents to players. To rise to become a good player you will have to overcome these challenges and solve many of the problem shots that hinder your score. Here are a few suggestions to help you deal with the most common golf trouble shots.

Getting The Golf Ball Out Of The Deep Rough

Let us start with the situation where the ball is in long grass which is fairly common on most courses. Everybody knows that the idea here should be to allow the loft of the club you select to lift the ball out of the rough. The tendency of long grass is to close the face of the club and greatly limit the loft of the golf club. This is why a much more lofted club than what you would usually select should be used in this situation. Remember that even if you have a long distance left to cover your first consideration must be getting the ball out of the rough.

Downhill and Uphill Golf Trouble

The thing to do here is to position the ball in the stance nearer the higher foot on the downhill lies and about center on the uphill lies. The ideal way to best judge what position you should take is to try out a practice swing and carefully observe the point where the club strikes the ground. If you find that the club makes contact with the ground nearer the back foot, you should move the ball back in your stance. If on the other hand the club strikes the ground nearer the front foot, then the ball should be moved forward.

Using The Benefit Of The Doubt To Get Out Of Trouble

The idea here is to always take one club extra and to therefore take the pressure off your shot. For instance if you are sure that a 5- iron will keep the ball just under those branches, then use a 4 or 3 iron. And if you are pretty sure that a 7-iron will take the ball over the tree then take and 8 or 9 iron. Always base your decisions on shots that you can play and not what you saw on some DVD.

There is no problem that has no solution and that means that even in golf there is no trouble shot that does not have the perfect solution.
