Warm up exercises to condition and prepare the muscles for any sport are very important and golf is certainly no exception.
In fact the truth is that warming up in golf is even more crucial than in many other sports. One of the reasons is because the pressure on a golfer can mount fairly quickly causing tension and uptight muscles which can even result in serious injury.
You Must Warm Up Muscles Linked To The Arm And Hand
The group of muscles that are critical to warm up and exercise regularly are those linked to the hand which is the main contact the golfer has with the club.
Here is a very simple but extremely effective warm up exercise.
Hold one of your clubs with your left hand only and then lift it to around your chest level. If you feel that you cannot manage to hold the club up with one hand, you can use the right hand as a support by putting it underneath your left elbow as you do the exercise. The next thing to do is to gently allow the club head to be lowered by turning your left forearm to almost horizontal position. Throughout the exercise routine make every effort to keep your left elbow in exactly the same position you started off with. In this way you will be really working and warming up the muscle groups that are vital for the golf swing which will go a long way in helping you to stroke the ball at all times rather than hitting it.
Next, bring the club-head back to its' original starting position. Now allow the forearm to rotate in the other direction and hold it once you have reached the desired horizontal angle. You can actually hold it for only one second or so.
Repeat the same routine several times and then move to your other hand and do the whole exercise routine all over again.
Benefits of Golf Exercise And Warming Up
This is one exercise that has helped many golfers to dramatically increase their club head speed resulting in much better shots. The exercise also increases flexibility in your wrists and forearms which will always go a long way in helping to prevent injury.
Another useful warm up tip is to walk briskly to the course whenever you play. If the distant is too short you can walk around the parking lot for a few minutes. As a result when you get round to doing the warm up exercises for your golf swing muscles you will already be fairly warmed up already.
